Difference Between Trend and Style?

Trends vs Style and why we need both

“Trends come and go but Style is forever” I am not exactly sure who said that but I can say without a doubt that both can be very important to achieve that cool girl attitude that the French are so well known for.

Just like dressing high-low, or contemporary-luxury, or vintage-new, mixing and matching styles and trends is simply a no brainer.  Think about the supermodels of the 90’s, they were often seen out at nightclubs and events wearing their very stylish Chanel boucle jacket, silk cami, and blue jeans!  The trend was the low cut blue jeans, 7 For All Mankind was the brand of the moment, and the stylish Chanel jacket.  Its a look that is still copied today.  

Trends are fun and allow you to mix up things you might have had in your closet forever with a new piece that doesn’t have to be a huge investment.  Maybe its a scarf or a new pair of shoes in the Panetone color of the year?  Or a jacket from a suit you own with a new pleated or lace skirt from Target or WalMart.  Check them out every once in a while for small investment pieces that you might want to throw into the mix for a season or two. 

The other day I wore my leopard Saint Laurent silk chiffon blouse with my Veronica Beard blazer, also leopard.  It was daring for me to wear leopard on leopard, soI wore my favorite black trousers from Banana Republic and some Manolo Blahnik black suede Mary Janes.  Carrie Bradshaw would approve!
